Why is it called "A" Mountain?
Well, because there is a giant 60 foot "A" on the mountain that overlooks the Arizona State University campus. A letter that signified the original names of the school has stood on that mountain since 1918, originally the letter N and then T, and finally in 1955 the A was constructed.
Currently the "A" is painted a golden yellow to represent Arizona State University whose colors are gold and maroon.
However, every year ASU's rivals from the University of Arizona sneak up "A" mountain before the football game and paint the "A" a different color. When you get up close to the "A" you can see a ton of different colors from all the layers of paint!
After a nice hike up the mountain we enjoyed some delicious tacos on the patio of a local restaurant Canteen & later we spent our evening on the patio of Four Peaks for some drinks with close friends. Ah, yes I love patio weather in February!
