So you're about to go to college and you are
Welcome. Smile. Wave. Introduce Yourself. Seriously, it's critical, I don't care how shy you are. Freshman year is such a huge change and it's the chance to meet so many new people. Keep your door open in the dorm room. Freshman year everyone was so friendly because everyone is going through the same new experiences and trying to meet people. As soon as sophomore year hit..doors were shut and everybody seemed to already have their group of friends. Definitely introduce yourself to people around you while everyone is open to it. I'm still friends with the guy that (drunkingly) stumbled into my room first day of freshman year. You just never know!
*do know, there's a good chance your friend group will change throughout college. say it ain't so?
*piece of advice - joining a sorority. I highly recommend trying it out if you think it would be fun, but make sure that you vibe well with the girls and you figure out which one is best for you.
Go Abroad. Go Abroad. Seriously, Go Abroad. Stop it with the excuses and just do it. I'm not kidding. Do it. It might set you back one semester like it did for me, but in the long run that doesn't matter one bit. It might be expensive, but don't let that scare you. It's the perfect time in your life to explore before you are tied down with a job and a life. Go.
Lastly, It's okay to Transfer. If you really aren't enjoying it, don't waste your time being miserable. Some schools just don't click, find the one that suits you because it will be worth it! I personally didn't transfer, but I know people who are very happy that they decided to.
Most importantly, enjoy every single second of it! Because before you know it..
